Koyo Zom Expedition

Koyo Zom is a stunning peak in the Upper Chitral region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan. Koyo Zom lies in the Hindu Raj Mountains on the boundary of Chitral District. Koyo Zom is on the boundary line of Pakistan, the peak rise along the borders with Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Koyo Zom is the highest peak in the Hindu Raj mountain range with an altitude of 6,871 meters (or 22,546 ft.). The Hindu Raj range is located between the Karakoram range in the east and the Hindu Kush range in the west, in the north of Pakistan. Koyo Zom was first climbed by an Austrian Expedition in 1968.

The peak look like a medieval cathedral stand in isolation and consider to be one of the beautiful peaks in the world. Koyo Zom Expedition starts from Islamabad. The participant will take up to Chitral via road or by air. The peak is located in the Yarkhoon Valley of upper Chitral, the journey to Koyo Zom Base Camp is quite exciting. Participants will trek through the Hindu Raj Mountains of Pakistan. The region is bestowed with immense beauty of nature, the spectacular high rising mountain, glaciers, streams, rivers, and beautiful landscape.

Other prominent peaks in this range are Buni Zom, Ghamabur Zom, and Gul Lasht Zom. Chogori Adventure offers an all-inclusive and complete package for mountain enthusiasts to the Koyo Zom Expedition. Our Koyo Zom Expedition cost starts from 4000 USD to 7000 USD depends upon the nature of the expedition and the number of group members. This is the minimum cost to join one of the possible fixed departures and groups. As well we organize the adventure on customize basis. Itinerary

Upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport, you will be warmly received by our team and transferred to your hotel. After check-in, there will be a detailed briefing covering the expedition plan, safety procedures, weather expectations, and equipment checks. This day is reserved for rest and recovery after international travel.

 

Overnight: Hotel in Islamabad

Early morning flight to Chitral (subject to weather conditions), offering spectacular aerial views of the Hindu Kush mountains. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel in Chitral town. The afternoon is free to explore the local bazaar, visit nearby villages, and complete final equipment and food preparations for the expedition.

 

Overnight: Hotel in Chitral

Drive to the picturesque village of Ayun, located at the confluence of the Chitral and Bumburet rivers. Visit the historic Ayun Fort and learn about the region’s culture and traditions. In the evening, enjoy a short acclimatization walk around the village to help the body adjust to altitude.

Overnight: Guesthouse / Camp in Ayun

After breakfast, drive to Shagrom, the road head for the Koyo Zom expedition. Meet the local support team and porters. Begin the trek toward Koyo Zom Base Camp through alpine meadows and rugged mountain terrain. Upon arrival, set up Base Camp, organize equipment, and rest.

Overnight: Camp at Koyo Zom Base Camp

These days are dedicated to proper acclimatization and preparation for the climb. Activities include:

  • Acclimatization hikes to higher elevations and surrounding ridges
  • Load carries to establish higher camps
  • Snow, ice, and rope-handling training
  • Crevasse rescue and safety briefings
  • Route scouting and weather monitoring

Adequate rest days are included to ensure a safe and successful summit attempt.

Overnight: Camp at Base Camp / Higher Camps (as per plan)

The summit phase begins depending on weather and team condition.

  • Gradual ascent from Base Camp to higher camps
  • Establishment of Camp I and Camp II (as required)
  • Final summit push in the early hours of the designated day
  • Reach the summit of Koyo Zom Peak and enjoy panoramic views of the Hindu Kush
  • Careful descent back to Base Camp

Overnight: High Camp / Base Camp

A full rest day at Base Camp to recover after the summit attempt. Medical checks are conducted, and the team relaxes and packs equipment for the return journey.

Overnight: Camp at Base Camp

Trek back from Base Camp to Shagrom. From Shagrom, drive back to Chitral town. Upon arrival, enjoy a well-earned hot shower and celebrate the successful expedition with the team.

Overnight: Hotel in Chitral

Morning flight back to Islamabad (weather permitting). Transfer to hotel. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with the expedition team to celebrate the adventure.

Overnight: Hotel in Islamabad

Transfer to Islamabad International Airport for your onward international flight, marking the end of the Koyo Zom Peak Expedition.
